Seawolves Complete Sweep Of Otters With 6-2 Win

Trevor Howell is tied for the CCAA lead with six home runs
ROHNERT PARK, Calif-  No. 12 Sonoma State completed a four-game sweep of Cal State Monterey Bay on Sunday with a 6-2 win at Seawolf Diamond.  Trevor Howell hit his team-high sixth home run of the year as the Seawolves stay perfect in California Collegiate Athletic Association play at 6-0.  The Seawolves are 17-1 overall and a perfect 13-0 in home games. 
With the sweep, the Seawolves are now 18-0 all-time against Cal State Monterey Bay.  SSU is also 48-5 at Seawolf Diamond since the start of the 2007 season. 

The Otters (4-11, 2-6 CCAA) got on the scoreboard first on Sunday when Jacob Flores laced a run-scoring double to left.  SSU tied it up in the bottom of the inning on a David Adler RBI single, but the Otters pulled ahead again with another run in the third. 

In the bottom of the third, the Seawolves scored three times on an RBI fielder's choice from Tyrese McDaniel, an RBI single by Mark Pestorich and an RBI double by Ian Bridges.  SSU tacked on two more runs in the fourth on Trevor Howell's home run to left field.  Howell leads the team with six home runs and 20 runs batted in. 

Kevin Asselin went the first five innings to get the win and improve to 2-0 on the season.  Nick O'Brien, John Bonifacini, and Travis Babin combined to throw four scoreless innings of relief. 

Matt DeJesus and Jacob Flores each had two hits for the Otters, who actually out hit Sonoma 8-5 in the game. 

Pestorich finished the game 2-for-3 to raise his team-leading batting average to .489 (22-for-45).  Ian Bridges went 1-for-3 to see his average drop to .450 and Howell saw his average rise to .421.  As a team, the Seawolves are batting .335 this season and they've outscored their opponents 173-45.

The Seawolves hit the road next weekend to face Cal State San Bernardino.
