No. 4 Seawolves Extend Streak To 17 In A Row

Konrad Thieme had two homers and eight RBIs in game one
ROHNERT PARK, Calif-  A twelve-day layoff did little to slow down the Sonoma State offense on Friday as the Seawolves rolled to a doubleheader sweep of San Francisco State by scores of 19-1 and 4-1.  The wins push the fourth-ranked Seawolves' winning streak to 17 games in a row as they improve to 23-1, 12-0 CCAA.  The Gators fall to 4-20, 1-13 CCAA.

The Seawolves are now 15-0 at home this season and have a record of 50-5 at Seawolf Diamond since the beginning of the 2007 season.  Sonoma State has outscored their opponents 229-65 this season and has scored 71 runs against SF State in five games this season.

The Seawolves pounded out a season-high 27 hits in game one on Friday.  Scoring in bunches, SSU crossed the plate in seven of their eight innings.  Konrad Thieme was the biggest contributor, blasting two home runs and driving in eight in a 4-for-6 performance.  Dave Herman also had a home run on his way to a 3-for-4 game.  Ian Bridges, Kyle Jones, and Nick Nosti also had three hits as the Seawolves lifted their season batting average to a blistering .355.

As potent as the Sonoma State offense was, starting pitcher Matt Means was just as stingy to Gator batters.  Means set a career-high with 12 strikeouts in eight and a third innings.  He allowed one run, five hits and walked just one batter as he improve to 5-0 this season.

Game two was a much closer contest, but again the Seawolves jumped out to an early lead when Tyrese McDaniel and Mark Pestorich drove in runs in the first inning.  The lead was pushed to 3-0 in the third on another McDaniel RBI single.

The Gators were able to push across just one run against Seawolf starter Kevin Asselin and that came in the fifth on a Bobby Carini RBI single.  Asselin improved to 4-0 on the season with a brilliant five-hit, eight-strikeout, complete-game performance.

McDaniel was 3-for-3 while Kris Haycock and Mark Pestorich were each 2-for-3.  Pestorich's 4-for-7 day lifted his batting average to a CCAA-high .478.

The Seawolves and Gators will continue this CCAA series on Saturday with a doubleheader in San Francisco.
