19 In A Row!; Fourth-Ranked Baseball Sweeps SFSU

Gino Lavezzo was 4-for-4 in Saturday's nightcap
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif-  Sonoma State stayed perfect in league play and extended their winning streak to 19 games in a row with a doubleheader sweep of San Francisco State on Saturday at Maloney Field in San Francisco.  The fourth-ranked Seawolves won the opener 8-6 before taking a 13-6 victory in the nightcap.  SSU improves to 25-1, 14-0 CCAA.

The Seawolves' current 19-game winning streak is the second-longest in school history.  SSU won 22 games in a row last season on their way to the CCAA Championship and a 50-12 overall record.

The Seawolves are 7-0 against the Gators this season and they've won 16 straight against San Francisco State since 2006.

With 28 hits on Saturday, the Seawolves improved their team batting average to a blistering .359.

After being outscored 23-2 in Friday's doubleheader, SF State came out firing in game one.  The Gators scored three runs in the first and another in the second to take a 4-1 lead after two.  The Seawolves, however, struck for four runs in the third to capture a lead they would not relinquish.

Dave Herman and Ian Bridges each went 3-for-3 in the game one win.  Bridges blasted his third home run of the season and Tyrese McDaniel had a pair of hits as well.  The first three hitters in the Gator lineup combined for nine hits, including a 4-for-5 performance by Matt Kavanaugh.

Gary Moran surrendered five runs and ten hits, but still hung on for his third win of the season.

In game two, the Seawolves broke open a two-run game with a seven-run fourth inning to take a 9-0 lead.  SF State would score in each of the last four innings, but it wasn't enough to get back into it as the Seawolves cruised to the 13-6 win.

Gino Lavezzo got the start at first base and responded with a 4-for-4 performance to lead the Seawolves.  Nick Nosti drove in four runs and Dave Herman closed out a superb series with a 2-for-4 game.

Rashad Tucker earned the win with a four-inning, five-strikeout performance.  He's now 3-0 on the season.

The Seawolves and Gators will meet in a non-conference game on Monday in Rohnert Park.  It is the final scheduled meeting between the teams this year.
