LA JOLLA, Calif- The Sonoma State softball team had trouble at the plate on Friday as they dropped both ends of a doubleheader to No. 19 UC San Diego, 6-1 and 3-0. The loss leaves the Seawolves with a record of 8-11, 1-7 CCAA. The Tritons improve to 17-7, 7-5 CCAA.
UC San Diego broke out in game one when a pair of Sonoma State errors led the way for a five-run second inning. Trailing 6-0 in the sixth, SSU finally worked a run in when
Dani Lopez scored
Caitlin Lavezzo on a triple down the right field line.
The Seawolves were charged with four errors in game one that resulted in four unearned runs for losing pitcher
Brittany Williams.
Things wouldn't get any better for the Seawolves in game two as, they fell behind early when UC San Diego scored a run in the first. They would tack on single runs in the fifth and sixth, giving Triton starter Lauren Chastain more than enough support.
Lopez would provide the only hit of the game for Sonoma State when she reached on an infield single with two outs in the sixth.
Simone Brandalise pitched well, scattering seven hits over six innings, only to be out-dueled by Chastain.
The Seawolves and Tritons will meet again in doubleheader action on Saturday in La Jolla.
