SAN BERNARDINO, Calif- Sonoma State picked up their first CCAA women's tennis victory of the year on Saturday with a 7-2 win over Cal State San Bernardino. The win lifts the Seawolves to 3-4, 1-2 CCAA.
Saturday's win could loom large in the regional rankings as the Coyotes defeated Cal Poly Pomona earlier in the year, the same Bronco team that was a 6-3 winner of Sonoma State on Friday. Following that tough loss, the Seawolves were able to elevate their play to get the big win on Saturday.
SSU went 5-1 in singles play, dropping just the No. 1 singles match to Jennifer Joy, the conference's top ranked player. SSU also dropped just one match in doubles play to win the match going away.
Particularly dominant for the Seawolves were
Haley Hickock and
Jeanette Peck at No. 5 and No. 6 singles. Hickock won 6-1, 6-1 and Peck was victorious by a 6-1, 6-0 score.
The Seawolves will host San Jose State on Tuesday afternoon in Rohnert Park.
