Men's Soccer Ends Season In Heartbreak With Loss In OT

SAN FRANCISCO -- The Sonoma State men's soccer team saw its 2014 season come to an end on Thursday when it surrendered a golden goal to host San Francisco State in the 94th minute to break a scoreless tie at Cox Stadium in San Francisco.  The Seawolves finish the year with an 8-8-2 overall record and a 3-6-2 mark in the CCAA.  The Gators also saw their 2014 campaign come to an end despite the victory, securing an 8-7-3 record overall and an identical 3-6-2 effort in conference action.

Both sides had their fair share of scoring opportunities in regulation, but it was San Francisco State to hold a narrow 14-13 advantage in shots, including a 10-3 margin in shots on goal.  In fact, Mitch North, who made his first start of the season in goal for Sonoma State, made a season-high 10 saves.  It was, however, the 11th shot on goal in the contest by the Gators that ended the day.  SFSU's Emmanuel Serrano took a pass from Jakob Velega and found the back of the net for the sudden victory at 93:46.

Of the 13 Seawolf shots, Zanin Mahic took five of them in his final collegiate match, but just one of them was taken on target.  Chris Pihl, the other SSU player to play in his final collegiate match, also attempted a shot that came on goal, but was saved by Gator netminder Colt Reichl, one of three saves by him.

Sonoma State has finished with a record .500 or better for the 23rd time in head coach Marcus Ziemer's 24 years as the leader of the program
