OAKLAND, Calif. -- Hannah Sourek went for 13 points and six rebounds and
Kelsey Robledo came off the bench to score 10 as the Sonoma State women's basketball team earned a convincing 27-point victory over host Holy Names, 72-45, on Thursday night in Oakland. The Seawolves notched their first win of 2014-15, moving to 1-1 while the Hawks fell to 0-3.
Trailing by a point at 10-9 midway through the first half, Sonoma State went on a 20-3 run to lead 29-13 and never looked back, stretching their lead to as much as 32 points (60-28) with 8:24 to play in the contest.
The Seawolves shot 44.6 percent for the game on 25 of 56 shooting and outrebounded the Hawks 51-36. In addition to her 10 points, Robledo brought down a team-high eight rebounds.
Leeana Bade dropped in nine points and had six boards in 15 minutes of play off the bench while
Taylor Acosta,
Madison Burroughs and
Joelle Cariaga all netted seven points.
Holy Names was led by the 16 points from Garysha Youngblood, 10 of which came from the free throw line on a perfect 10 for 10 effort. Tatiana Howard had 10 rebounds to lead all players. The Hawks were held to just 24.1 percent from the floor on 13 of 54 shooting, including a dismal 9.5 percent from three-point range (2 for 21).
Sonoma State returns home for its next three games, including a non-conference match up Tuesday night against Dominican. Tipoff from The Wolves' Den is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
