(Written by Craig Lifto, SSU Sports Information)

ROHNERT PARK -- Mike Harris recorded team-highs of 12 points and six rebounds and Andy Mitchell came off the bench to drop in 10 points as the Sonoma State men's basketball team pulled away late for a 61-56 victory over Holy Names in non-conference action Tuesday night at The Wolves' Den.

The Seawolves, who are again receiving votes in this week's NABC Division II Top 25 Coaches' Poll, have won five straight games, improving to 6-1 this season.  The Hawks dip to 2-9.

It wasn't easy for Sonoma State against Holy Names, but the Seawolves were able to grind-out the win after sinking 9 of their last 10 free throws in the final minute.  SSU in the first half, shooting 26.9% from the field and went into the locker room down 22-21. The second half saw the Seawolves come out stronger and they played more like their 6-1 record indicates. They started an 8-0 run with 14:10 remaining to take a 39-35 lead and they never relinquished the lead again. Sonoma State was able to get its lead as high as nine points with 3:20 left, before settling on the five point victory.

The Seawolves shot 38.5%, while Holy Names shot 46.7% for the game.  Sonoma State dominated in the paint, outscoring the Hawks 36-22. The Seawolves were able to convert 18 Hawk turnovers into 17 points, while the Hawks were only able to score seven points off 11 Seawolf turnovers.

In addition to Harris' and Mitchell's efforts, Michael Avery had four steals for the Seawolves to go along with eight points.  David Ahern matched Avery's eight points on the night.

Nick Simi led all Hawks players with 12 points and Joshua Crum added 10.

Sonoma State returns to action on Sunday at The Wolves' Den in a rare day game against San Francisco State at 2:00 pm.  The Seawolves and Gators met last Friday in a thrilling 56-54 victory for SSU down at The Swamp.
