LA JOLLA, Calif. -- The Sonoma State volleyball team continued their torrid play on Friday, sweeping Cal Poly Pomona in three sets to earn a spot in the finals of the CCAA Championship Tournament at RIMAC Arena in La Jolla. Not only was it the 21st win in a row for the Seawolves, it was their tenth consecutive sweep. The 17th-ranked Seawolves improve to 25-3 on the year while the Broncos see their season end at 17-13.
The Seawolves haven't lost a match since September 17th. Perhaps even more amazing, they haven't allowed an opponent to take a single set since October 21st, a run of 31 straight.
The Seawolves led throughout most of the match on Saturday, easing their way to 25-20, 25-20, and 25-22 wins.
Seniors
Madelyn Densberger and
Caylie Seitz led the way with 10 kills each.
Calan Seitz had 16 assists and
Kaitlyn Connolly added 16 digs. As a team, the Seawolves hit .207 and limited the Broncos to an .097 clip. It was the fifth straight match (and the eighth time in their last ten matches) that the Seawolves have held an opponent under .100.
The regular season champion Seawolves will try to complete the double by capturing a tournament banner on Saturday against No. 2 seed Cal State San Bernardino, which defeated No. 3 seed UC San Diego in four sets in the other semifinal on Friday. First serve is set for 7:00 pm.
