Baseball Suffers 8-2 Loss In First CCAA Contest Of 2015

LOS ANGELES -- Sonoma State got out to an early 2-0 lead, but couldn't muster any more offense the rest of the night and took an 8-2 loss to Cal State L.A. in their 2015 CCAA opener. In addition to their 0-1 conference record, they are now 3-4 overall. Cal State L.A. is now 1-0 in the CCAA and 6-2 overall.

The Seawolves got their early lead when they put across two runs in the first inning. The first run came on an Eric Ehlow RBI double that scored Codey Morris. The second run came in the very next at-bat when Alex Crosby singled in Ehlow. Sonoma State lost the lead when Cal State L.A. tied the game at 2 in the third inning and took the lead in the fifth at 3-2 and never looked back.

Sonoma State got five hits on the night compared with eight for the Golden Eagles. Both teams committed two errors and the Golden Eagles left 10 men on base compared with seven for Sonoma State.

Ehlow was the only Seawolf to collect two hits and ran his batting average to .421 on the early season. The RBI in the first inning upped his 2015 total to six. Crosby, Daniel Caresio and Joseph Marquez had the other three hits.

Phillip Raymos started the game for the Seawolves and went 4 2/3 innings, giving up three runs, one earned to go with three hits and five strikeouts.

Brandon Quintero went seven innings for the Golden Eagles and didn't allow an earned run on three hits with 12 strikeouts. Trent Zaks went 2 for 3 with two RBI's.

Sonoma State continues its four game series at Cal State L.A. with a doubleheader starting at 1:00 PM.
