CARSON, Calif.— The Sonoma State women's basketball team gave first-place Cal State Dominguez Hills all they could handle before succumbing to the Toros, 78-73, in their next-to-last game of the 2014-15 season. The Seawolves saw their CCAA record drop to 4-17, while their overall record is now 6-19. The Toros are now 17-3 in conference play and 22-6 overall.
Sonoma State did a good job of hanging around in the first half and that would pay dividends in the second half. They never trailed by more than nine points and were down 44-37 heading to the half. The Seawolves came charging into the second half and went on a 14-2 to start the half that gave them a 51-47 lead with 15:17 remaining in the game. The Seawolves opened up a 10-point lead when
Hannah Sourek hit a three-pointer to make the score 69-59 with 6:22 left, but that's when the Toros would start their comeback that would lead to the five point victory.
The field goal percentages were almost even for the game, with Cal State Dominguez Hills shooting 45% (27-60) to Sonoma State's 44.4% (28-63). A big part of the Sonoma State effort was three-point shooting. They shot 41.2% (7-17) from beyond the arc. The biggest plus in the Toros effort was their 40-20 advantage on points in the paint.
Sourek led all Seawolf scorers with 16 points.
Molly Kommer and
Madison Burroughs backed up Sourek with 14 and 12 points respectively.
Taylor Acosta had nine points and six rebounds.
Talia Rayford led all scorers with 25 points for the Toros.  Breanne Garcia had 17 points.
Sonoma State wraps up their season on Saturday night at Cal State Los Angeles. Game time is slated for 5:30 P.M.
