Seawolves Walkoff With Victory For Second Straight Game

ROHNERT PARK -- Trailing by two runs heading into the bottom of the ninth inning, the Sonoma State baseball team plated two runs on a defensive error to tie the game up at 4-4 before Cameron Merriwether lifted a sacrifice fly to center field to score the game-winning run for the thrilling 5-4 victory on Sunday afternoon at Seawolf Diamond.

The Seawolves take the series, three games to one, and improve to 10-10 overall and 5-7 in the CCAA.  The Coyotes stumbled to 4-17 (2-10 CCAA).

With just two outs to work with in the bottom of the ninth inning trailing by two, but with two runners on, Steven Moen hit a single to the Coyotes' right fielder, who saw the baseball go under his glove and roll well behind him, allowing Alex Crosby and Philip Ramos to score to tie the game. The error allowed Moen to advance all the way to third base.  Daniel Caresio took over at third base for Moen, leaving it up to Merriwether to hit the game-winning sacrifice fly scoring Caresio.

Things looked bleak for the Seawolves late in the game because the Coyotes broke a 2-2 tie with runs in the top of the eighth and ninth to put them ahead 4-2, but the Seawolves gutted-out a second-straight victory in their final at bat.

Merriwether paced the Seawolves offense, going 1 for 3 with two RBI's. Crosby went 1 for 3 with two runs.

The Seawolves used four pitchers (Aaron Gillis, Mitch Coombs, DeVon Golden and Ricky Clark) to hold the Coyotes to two earned runs. Clark (2-0) picked up the win for Sonoma State.
Matt LeVert (0-2) took the loss for the Coyotes. Aaron Owen went 1 for 4 with two RBI's.

The Seawolves continue their current 13-game homestand on Friday when the Cal Poly Pomona Broncos come to Seawolf Diamond to start a four-game series at 2:00 P.M.
