Ahern Rallies Seawolves Past Otters For Big Home Win

ROHNERT PARK -- David Ahern contributed 21 points, including 16 in the second half, as the Sonoma State men's basketball team put up a late offensive rally to top Cal State Monterey Bay 74-62 in The Wolves' Den Friday night.

The Seawolves now sit with an even 5-5 conference record and 10-6 record overall. The Otters fall to 5-5 against the CCAA and 7-9 on the season.

By the end of the first 20 minutes, each team had 35 points on the scoreboard.  Cal State Monterey Bay held the lead until those last 40 seconds in the first half. That is until Ahern landed a shot from behind the arc which tied it up at 35-all at the end of the half.

But that wouldn't be all for Ahern. During the second half, he would go on to score 16 of his team's 39 points. He was 5-8 and 1-4 from downtown during the half.

Both teams were tied at 54 with 8:36 left to play in the game, but that was when the Seawolf offense exploded, going on a 20-8 run in those remaining
minutes.  They led by 16, their greatest lead of the night, with 1:35 to go. The score was 74-62 by the time the final buzzer sounded.

Luke Cochran scored a career-high 13 points in the game, 11 in the first half, also contributing five rebounds.  Andy Mitchell led SSU with eight rebounds.

The Seawolves shot 47.4 percent (27-57) compared to the Otter's 43.5 percentage (27-62).

CSUMB's Ryan Nitz led his team in both points and rebounds with 15 and 11, respectively.

Sonoma State will continue its homestand Saturday night, taking on Cal State East Bay at The Wolves' Den at 7:30 pm.
