Tanner Adams scored 18, 12 and 5 points, respectively, on combined shooting of 14 for 22, including 4 for 7 from three-point range, but the Sonoma State women's basketball team suffered a 75-62 loss to No. 20 UC San Diego in the regular season finale for both squads Saturday night at RIMAC Arena in La Jolla.
The Seawolves see their season come to an end at 10-19 overall and 5-15 in the CCAA. The Tritons (23-3- overall), meanwhile, earn a share of the CCAA title with Cal State East Bay and Cal State Dominguez Hills, all three with 18-2 records in conference play, but UCSD will be the No. 2 seed in the upcoming CCAA tournament.
Sonoma came out of the gates on fire and grabbed its largest lead of the game at 27-20 with 5:21 to play in the first half, but UCSD captured the lead and went into the halftime break up by four, 35-31. However, the Seawolves went on a slight run to regain the lead, a five-point advantage (42-37) after a made jumper by Adams with 7:06 left in the third quarter.
The teams would trade leads towards the end of the third period, but host UC San Diego would go on to outscore Sonoma State 23-13 in the final quarter to take the 13-point win into the playoffs.
The Seawolves connected on 25 of 61 shots (41.0 percent), but was just 5 of 17 (29.4 percent) from long range. The Tritons hit on 29 of 56 attempts from the floor (51.8 percent), making six three-pointers on the night.
