ROHNERT PARK, Calif. --
Hannah Sourek had 15 points and 12 rebounds, but it wouldn't be quite enough as the Sonoma State women's basketball team lost a heartbreaker in double overtime to Humboldt State on Saturday night, 73-64.  It was the second straight night that the Seawolves were able to build up a sizable lead, only to see it slip away.
The loss leaves the Seawolves at 8-16 overall and 3-12 in CCAA play.  The Lumberjacks improve to 11-11, 8-7 CCAA.
Just like Friday night when they held an 18-point lead on Cal Poly Pomona, the Seawolves led the Lumberjacks by as many 16 on Saturday night after a 23-9 edge in the third quarter gave them a 47-31 lead heading into the fourth.  However, as good as the third quarter was, the fourth quarter was equally as bad.
Humboldt State outscored the Seawolves 22-6 in the fourth and when a Neika Puryear three-pointer tied the game at 53, all the Seawolves could do, following a
Jessica Mitz miss, was hope the Lumberjacks missed on their last possession.  As it turned out, they did (on their last two, in fact), sending the game to overtime.
Trailing by two points with under 20 seconds to go in the first overtime, the Seawolves turned to their senior leader, Sourek, who calmly sank a jumper in the paint to tie the game at 61.  Again, the Lumberjacks had a chance to win it and again their attempts went wide, extending the game to double overtime.
It was in the second overtime that the Seawolves finally ran out of gas as the 'Jacks scored the first eight points and didn't let SSU score until the final minute.
Sourek's 15 points came on 5-of-11 shooting from the field.  She also hit two three-pointers and grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds.
Madison Burroughs had nine points and
Taylor Todd pulled down seven rebounds.
The Seawolves were solid on the glass, pulling down 24 offensive rebounds in the game.
A'Jaee Foster was the game's leading scorer with 18 points for Humboldt.
While the Seawolves are still in contention for the CCAA Tournament, they need wins.  They'll host their final two home games of the 2015-16 season next week when San Francisco State (Tuesday) and Cal State San Marcos (Saturday) come to town.
