Sharpshooting Gators Sprint Past Seawolves On Tuesday

ROHNERT PARK -- Andy Mitchell scored a career-high 19 points, but his efforts were not enough to triumph over visiting San Francisco State as the Sonoma State men's basketball team falls to the Gators 76-65 in The Wolves' Den Tuesday night.

The Seawolves fall to 7-9 in conference play and 12-10 overall while the Gators' record improves to 13-9 overall and 7-9 in the CCAA.  Both teams now hold on to the seventh spot in the CCAA standings.

SFSU drained a season-high 16 baskets from behind the arc, 12 of which came in the first half alone. That 53.3 percentage (16-30) was also the best of the year for the Gators.

San Francisco went on a 27-4 run right after the initial tip-off and with just under 11 minutes into the game, the Gators possessed their largest lead of the night, a 24 point advantage. They would also lead by 24 at the end of the half.

With the help of second-half rallies by David Ahern and Luke Cochran, both of which both scored nine points apiece during the last 20 minutes, SSU was able to cut into the Gator lead. The Seawolf offense as a whole outshot SFSU in the second half, 50 percent (16-32) to 33.3 percent (7-21), but time ran out before SSU could complete its comeback.

Cochran grabbed eight of his team's 32 rebounds and 11 points and Ahern walked off the court with 13 points on the night.

San Francisco's Jon McMurry scored a game-high 23 points and was 6-8 from beyond the three-point line.

The Seawolves will look to snap their four-game losing streak on Senior Day Saturday. They will be taking on CCAA-newcomer Cal State San Marcos at 4 p.m. in The Wolves' Den.
