Offense Explodes For Two More Wins In Turlock Saturday

TURLOCK, Calif. -- Carlie Daniel exploded for six hits in eight at bats, including three doubles, a home run and five runs batted in, leading the Sonoma State softball team to two more wins at the Tournament of Champions in Turlock, an 8-0 win over Hawaii Pacific in six innings before knocking off Chaminade 8-2 soon thereafter.  Sarah Langley also had a big day at the plate, going 5 for 7 with a double and three RBI's in the two wins combined.

The Seawolves improved to 21-13 this season.

Sonoma will wrap up the annual Tournament of Champions on Sunday with two games, one against Notre Dame de Namur at 1:45 pm at Warrior Field before taking on Holy Names at 4:30 pm on Field 3 of Pedretti Sports Complex.

Sonoma State 8, Hawaii Pacific 0 (6 innings)

The Seawolves didn't waste any time to make their statement on Saturday, posting four runs in their first at bat of the day off of Hawaii Pacific's Alexis Morales.  Alee Balanon took advantage of a defensive miscue to score from second on a fly out by Alison Strycula to open the scoring.  Two batters later, Jena Kaser went yard, lifting a deep shot over the center field fence for the 2-0 lead.  Langley then came up with a two-RBI single, scoring Mayleen Mazon and Jordann White to put SSU up 4-0.

In the fourth, Balanon produced two more runs, but this time with the bat, singling up the middle to bring home Malory Masajlo and Ally Bryant for the 6-0 advantage.  Then, in the sixth inning, Lindsey Calcany Blair doubled home a run in Langley, followed by a walkoff bases loaded RBI single by Daniel which induced the eight-run mercy rule.

While the offense heated up, Amanda Llerena cooled the Sharks' bats, holding them to just two hits while striking out 10 in her shutout win.  She improved to 13-7 on the year.

Langley went 3 for 3 with a pair of RBI's, Daniel went 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI, and Balanon went 2 for 3 with two RBI's.  In total, Sonoma raked up 14 hits, one shy of its season-high of 15 that was posted in Friday's win over the Academy of Art.

Sonoma State 8, Chaminade 2

In Saturday's nightcap, the Seawolves blasted five doubles, all in the first two innings to blow past the Silverswords.  Daniel was again unstoppable at the plate, going 3 for 4 with two doubles, a home run, four RBI and three runs scored.

Balanon, Kaser and Langley all had two hits each as Sonoma piled up 12 hits in the contest.

In the circle, Mazon got the start, going three innings, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks, striking out one before giving way to Gabby Dupree in the fourth.  Dupree went on to earn her first decision of the year, a win to go to 1-0.  She gave up just one hit, shutting out Chaminade in her four innings of work, striking out four.
