Sonoma Runs Win Streak To 11 Games With Another Sweep

SAN MARCOS, Calif. -- The Sonoma State softball team continued its streak of victories, stretching it to 11 games with another sweep on Sunday at Cal State San Marcos.  The Seawolves (20-7, 15-5) jump into a tie for third place in the CCAA standings after a perfect 8-0 Spring Break roadtrip to Southern California this past week.  The Cougars fell to 7-16 overall and 6-12 in the CCAA.

In the opener, Madison Barto provided all of the offense Sonoma needed, doubling home Karly Macadangdang in the third inning, then smashing a solo home run to center field in the sixth inning for the only two runs scored on either side.  Brigid Ruiz (5-3) took care of business in the pitching circle, allowing just four hits while striking out a career-high eight batters.  In fact, Ruiz didn't allow a hit until the fifth inning.

In the series finale, Barto put the Seawolves on the scoreboard in the first inning, ripping a run-scoring single to left, plating Jenny Collazo for the 1-0 lead.  Lindsey Calcany Blair followed with an RBI sacrifice bunt to push the lead to 2-0.  Jenn Amaral did the same in the third inning for the 3-0 lead.

The Cougars finally broke through in the sixth inning for a run, but that would be all the rest of the day.

Jordann White put a bow on the week with a solo home run in the seventh to secure the 4-1 victory.

Brielle Vidmar (8-2) went the first four innings in the circle and struck out five, giving up four hits in the process.  Teresa Danenberg tossed the final inning to earn the save.

Sonoma State returns home to face UC San Diego in a four-game series on Sunday, March 26th (1:00 pm/3:00 pm) and Monday, March 27th (11:00 am/1:00 pm).
