ROHNERT PARK, Calif. - The Seawolves began their three game conference home stand against the Golden Eagles by splitting Saturday's DH loosing 6-2 in game one and then winning 6-2 in game 2.
Sonoma is now 14-12 overall and 10-10 in the CCAA and Cal State LA is 17-13 and 10-10 in conference.
Game 1:
The Seawolves had 2 runs on 7 hits and no errors. At the plate,
Trevor Abrams was 2 for 4 with two RBI's and
Daniel Caresio was 1 for 3 with an RBI. He currently leads the CCAA in on base percentage with .535.
Both Seawolf runs came in the fifth inning.
Rayson Romero singled and advanced to second on a throwing error in right field and then made it all the way to third base while Abrams scored. The next at bat, Caresio, grounded out to second base, but Romero was able to make it in for the run.
Game 2:
Same score different teams. Sonoma State had 6 runs on 10 hits and 1 error.
The defense combined with the pitching staff of
Matt Hammonds (3-1) and
Jackson Berumen kept the Golden Eagles to 2 runs on 8 hits. Hammonds pitched 7 innings allowing 4 hits, no earned runs or walks and struck out six. He is third in the CCAA in ERA with 1.56.
Abrams was 2 for 4 at the plate with a triple RBI homer in the first inning.
Nathan Mann was 2 for 4 with one run and two RBI's.
Matthew Richards was 2 for 4 with one run and Caresio was 1 for 3 with one run scored and one RBI.
As previously mentioned, the Seawolves scored three runs in the first inning thanks to a home run by Abrams on pitch number three.
Sonoma tallied another run in the second when Mann scored as Caresio grounded out to second.
In the third they scored twice more; Mann doubled down the left field line and brought both Richards and Abrams home.
CSULA and Sonoma will complete their series tomorrow, April 2nd with a single game starting at 11:00am at Seawolf Diamond.
