Volleyball Swept By Simon Fraser On Friday In Idaho

NAMPA, Idaho -- On the campus of Northwest Nazarene University it was the Clan of Simon Fraser University from Burnaby, British Columbia who abruptly ended the Seawolves modest four game win streak. The Clan won by scores of (25-23, 25-23, 25-18) to run their overall record to (5-2).

In game one the Seawolves had an early lead of 7-4 but a five point run later in the set became too much to overcome. SSU made a late run when down 24-19 and brought it within one before an unforced error sealed the deal for our neighbors to the north.

In game two it was a point for point contest when Sonoma State forced Asimov Fraser to call a time out when the Seawolves had a 22-21 lead. Unfortunately for the Seawolves the Clan went on a three point run and punctuated by a kill by sophomore outside hitter Kristen Pinkey en route to her team leading thirteen kills on the day.

Game three was a battle of big point runs with both teams having multiple three and four point runs. With the score tied 16-16 it was Simon Fraser who scored nine of the next eleven points to shut the door for the third and final time.

Sophomore outside hitter Caiti Wiesner led Sonoma State with thirteen kills. Unfortunately this was one of the lower team hitting percentages for the Seawolves this season. Nineteen hitting errors, five blocking errors, and seven service errors were big momentum killers for the Seawolves in a match that was not indicative of their style of play this year.

"We had opportunities today but didn't play clean enough to take advantages of the chances we had," commented Head Coach Bear Grassl.

Tomorrow SSU has a rematch with Dominican University who they beat last week with a match at 1:00 P.M. mountain time before they take on host Northwest Nazarene at 7:30P.M. Mountain Time.
