TURLOCK, Calif. -- Ugochi Anudokem scored her fourth double-double of the year with 15 points and 11 rebounds and
Jessica Mitz dropped in a season-high 15 points as well, but the Sonoma State women's basketball team dropped a 79-64 decision to host Stanislaus State Wednesday evening at Fitzpatrick Arena in Turlock. The Seawolves fall to 5-8 overall and 2-7 in the CCAA. The Warriors rise to 7-10 (4-7 CCAA).
The two teams went back and forth in the opening stanza with neither team taking a lead of more than three points. In fact, the Seawolves enjoyed their largest lead of the game when
Sam Erisman laid in the first two of her seven points on the night with 53 seconds to play in the first period to put SSU up 14-11. However, Stanislaus' Angelica Baylon nailed a three-pointer on their next trip down the floor, spearheading what would be a 13-0 run by the hosts to take a 10-point lead at 24-14 with seven minutes left in the half. The Seawolves could never recover as the Warriors advantage remained in double digits for much of the second half.
Sonoma shot 39.7 percent from the floor (25-63) as Stanislaus was 48.1 percent (25-52), connecting on 10 three-pointers at 45 percent efficiency.
Carly Gill chipped in with 12 points to complement the 15-point efforts by Anudokem and Mitz. The Warriors' Lizzy Alexander led all scorers with 18 points, adding five rebounds and four assists.
Sonoma State will fly to southern California on Thursday ahead of Friday's contest at Cal State L.A. Tipoff is set for 5:30 pm.
