Seawolves Celebrate Seniors, Look Ahead to CCAAs

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – With a first-round bye of the CCAA Tournament in their sights, the No. 24 Sonoma State Seawolves set out to win their game against Cal State Monterey Bay while hoping UC San Diego could limit second-place Chico State to fewer than three points in today's match. Unfortunately, the Seawolves proved unable to pull out the victory in double-overtime, falling 1-0 on a late penalty kick, while the Wildcats beat the Tritons 1-0 in Chico.

With the loss, the Seawolves fall to 10-3-3 on the season and 8-3-1 in conference play, finishing their regular season schedule as the third-place seed in conference standings.

Before the match started, Sonoma State honored their five departing members today--Bella Amyx, Miriam Bloom, Kristen Spear, Kaylin Emigh and Dayna Dolcini—in a pregame senior day ceremony, featuring their friends, family and loved ones.

The Seawolves excelled at keeping the Otters' chances slim through the match, as the Sonoma State defensive line limited Monterey Bay to just nine shots through 107 minutes of play. Despite outshooting their opponent 27 to nine, Sonoma proved unable to get any of their 13 shots on goal past Otters' keeper Stephanie Busch.

The match's game winner came after Allexxis Hand—who earned a through ball up from Isabel Madrid—was taken down in the box by a Seawolf defender, earning a trip to the penalty spot. Melissa Wilson calmly put the ball in the left side of the net, making the Otters walk-off winners.

As the third place finisher in conference play, Sonoma State will host number-six seeded Cal State LA next Tuesday, October 30, for the First Round of the CCAA Tournament. The do-or-die game will kick off at 2 p.m. from Seawolf Soccer Field.
