Seawolves End Season With 65-62 Senior-Night Thriller

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – A sold-out senior night from the Wolves' Den did not disappoint for the 1,300 on hand for Sonoma State's Saturday showdown with Chico State. Despite bringing their A-game and battling with the Wildcats all night, the Seawolves were unable to nab the win in their final game of the season, falling 65-62.

Jackson Gion, Armani Nicolis and Lewayne Grant led the Seawolves on offense throughout the night, each posting double-digit performances.

The Seawolves played tough through the first half, taking a 8-6 lead within the first three minutes and holding their lead for the next 14:30. While they never opened a lead bigger than six points, Sonoma State maintained the pace of the game through the first period. However, over the final four minutes of the half, Chico State retook the lead with a 10-3 run, nabbing a 36-32 lead at the break.

The teams battled back and forth through the second half, exchanging the lead seven times. Sonoma State opened up the first four minutes of the second half with an 8-2 run, putting themselves back on top, but Chico countered with a 10-4 run over the next 5:31, to open up their largest margin of the night: four points.

Things were looking up for the Seawolves as a raucous crowd helped Gion, Grant, Nicolis and Davion Mize combine for 15 points between 13:11 and 4:08 to match their game-high six-point margin. However, the Wildcats took the lead when it counted the most, running a 14-5 line over the final four minutes to nab a slim three-point victory over the Seawolves.

With the 65-62 result, the Seawolves complete their season at 10-16 as well as 8-14 in conference play.
