Seawolves Ride Rout of Dominguez Hills To Series Win

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – Sonoma State wrapped up their four game set on Monday with a 9-2 rout of Cal State Dominguez Hills, securing three wins on the weekend.

Michael Beyerline and Toros' starter Joe Mercado found themselves locked in a pitching duel through the first four and a half innings until Sonoma State broke out in a big way during the fifth.

Nathan Mann found his way aboard on a one-out pop fly to right that was dropped by Kai Gomez. A walk and a single soon loaded the bases, prompting a Dominguez Hills pitching change. Anthony Clyma came up to pinch hit, and promptly singled to left, driving in the first two runs of the game. Zach Guardino then came through with a base hit to left as well, scoring Bryce Nagata. With Guardino at first and Clyma at second, the Seawolves put a double steal into motion, but on the throw down to third, the ball sailed high into left field allowing both runners to advance an additional base. With the score 4-0, the Seawolves continued to pile on. Joshua Montelongo hit a sac fly to right, bringing home Guardino, and two batters later Josh Lenney capped the inning with a two-run homer to left.

Dominguez Hills cut the lead by one in the top of the sixth, as Justin Morris hit a bases-loaded sac fly to center, the Seawolves pulled the run back in the bottom of the frame, as Rayson Romero came home on a fielding error by the first baseman.

Sonoma State took their biggest lead of the game with a single to right in the seventh, plating Lenney and moving ahead 9-1. The Toros brought one home in the ninth but it would not prove enough as the Seawolves wrapped their series win with a 9-2 victory.

Sonoma State now moves to 14-12 and 10-10 (CCAA) on the season before traveling south this week to take on the Broncos at Cal Poly Pomona. Game one begins Thursday at 6 pm.
