LA JOLLA, Calif. – Seawolves held the No. 14 UC San Diego to nine shut out innings. Sonoma State dropped today's CCAA doubleheader 14-4 in game one and 1-0 in game two (10 innings).
Sonoma State's record falls to 4-6 overall and 3-4 in conference while UCSD rises 11-4 overall and 6-4 in CCAA play.
UC San Diego 14, Sonoma State 4
Game one of the conference series between the Tritons and the Seawolves went the way of UC San Diego 14-4, due in large part to the first two innings.
Sonoma had 4 runs on 10 hits and 2 errors. In the first inning,
John Abate hit an RBI single through the right side. Putting the Seawolves up 1-0 going into the bottom of the first.
The Tritons hit three home runs over the first two frames to take an 8-1 lead.
The Seawolves scored again in the third off a line out to right field and then again in the fifth when
Drew Downing and Zachary Guardino scored off
Patrick Tolbert's double down the right-field line.
UC San Diego added three in the fifth and three more in the eighth to secure its 14-4 win.
Abate was 3 for 4 with one RBI and one run, and Tolbert was 1 for 2, with 2 RBIs.

Robert Towne and
Tyson Canfield held the No. 14 offense from crossing the dish 9.1 innings pitched.
Redshirt sophomore first baseman Blake Baumgartner's walk-off single with one out and the bases loaded to the opposite field in right gave No. 14 UC San Diego the sweep of a doubleheader.
The Seawolves three hits came from Guardino,
Kory Brown (double), and
Donovyn Curiel.
