Rohnert Park, Calif. – Sonoma State is now 12-13 overall and 10-11 in the CCAA after winning both of Sundays nine-inning games against Cal Poly Pomona, with a 7-4 and a 9-5 win in game two.
Kory Brown went 4-for-5 at the plate with three RBIs in game two.
Game One: Sonoma State 7, Cal Poly Pomona 4
The Seawolves began the day with three hits in the first, with bases juiced
Kory Brown singled to left center to bring in
John Abate for an earl 1-0 lead over the Broncos.
Sonoma State added two to the board when
Dan Deely doubles to left center to score
Joshua Lenney, then Deely crossed the plate when
Matt Hill singled through the left side.
With bases loaded in the third, the Broncos got on the board with an RBI sac fly to left field 3-1. Keeping the Seawolves off the base paths with a three-up-three-down third inning Cal Poly Pomona took advantage of a first and third situation to score and get within a run of the Seawolves 3-2.
Hill with his second RBI hit of the game scored Deely with a single through the right side for a 4-2 edge over the Broncos.
The fifth inning saw both teams three-up-three-down.
After keeping the Broncos from crossing the plate in the sixth, the Seawolves added a pair of runs. Hill with his third RBI single scored Lenney with a hit to left field, then
Bryce Vitt scored on a balk for a 6-2 lead after six complete.
Following an inning and a half of scoreless baseball, Sonoma State loaded the bases, then
Zach Guardino wore a pitch to bring in Deely 7-2.
Cal Poly Pomona put up a ninth-inning rally featuring a two-run home run to right field to get within three runs of the Seawolves for a final score of 7-4.
John Cashman recorded his third win of the season on the hill.
Game Two: Sonoma State 9, Cal Poly Pomona 5
Sonoma State continued its early lead trend, scoring four in the first. Brown tripled down the right field line to clear the bases and score both Guardino and Hill 2-0. Then Brown and Harwell took advantage of a wild pitch and a Bronco error to double its lead 4-0.
A high scoring second inning saw the Broncos tie the game for the first time all day off five hits, stringing together four singles and a timely double.
The Seawolves answered back in the bottom of the second adding three runs to the board. Guardino singled to right field to score both Abate and Deely (6-0), then next at-bat Brown singled through the right side to score Hill (7-0).
Cal Poly Pomona recorded its final run of the day in the third with a single up the middle (7-5).
Sonoma State added its eighth run in the fifth when Harwell scored on a Bronco error.
Jack Pridy scored the game's final run when he scored off a sacrifice fly to right field by Deely.
