Rohnert Park, CA - Senior Nalani Scates would get her second start of the 4-game series against the Otters in the first game of the Saturday doubleheader and she would pick up right where she left off on Friday afternoon. Scates threw a 1 run, 1 hit, 7-inning shutout for the Seawolves to secure their third win on the weekend. Scates didn't give up a run until the 6th inning and struck out 6 in the contest for SSU.
Sonoma got off to a fast start with a 1-out walk and then a double from senior outfielder Alee Balanon to put runners in scoring position. Jordyn Martinez would continue her RBI tear and ground out to second for the RBI. Martinez would tack on another RBI for the game with a bunt single in the third to score Julie Davis and make it 2-0 Seawolves. After surrendering a run in the 6th SSU would get it back in the following half inning on an infield single by freshman Reagan Hunt making it 3-1. Scates would close it out in the 7th retiring the first three batters in order to end the game.
With the 4-game sweep in their sights, the Seawolves threw ace Teresa Danenberg. Danenberg would throw 3 scoreless innings only giving up 2 hits but coach Bridges turned it over to freshman right hander Nicole Sarra. Sarra lasted an inning and 2 thirds but during that time the Seawolves finally got to Monterey Bay's pitcher and put up a 4 spot in the bottom half of the 4th. With some Otter errors to load the bases, sophomore shortstop Cassidy Romano would double down the left field line to plate two and put Sonoma on the board! Courtney Jack would tack on another with an RBI single and then freshman Reagan Hunt would score the Seawolves 4th run with a squeeze bunt where she also hustled it out for hit to extend the inning.
Looking to close out the game, Jennifer Bridges went to another freshman pitcher in Raquel Chaidez to finish the game. Chaidez threw 2 innings giving up just two hits and striking out one to earn her first save of the season. Sonoma State improves to 17-8 on the season and 12-4 in conference play. The Seawolves have now won 12 straight and carry a ton of momentum as they travel up north to face Chico State on the road. Chico State will come into the contest as the #4 ranked team in the nation.
