WSOC: Three First Half Goals Propel Seawolves Past San Francisco State

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – The Sonoma State women's soccer team closed out their non-conference schedule on Saturday afternoon with a 3-1 victory over San Francisco State.  The Seawolves improved to 5-1 on the season, using a three first half goals to put the game out of reach.

SSU wasted no time getting on the board, netting the game's first goal in the 2nd minute.  Molly Murphy fired a laser from the top of the box for her team leading 4th goal of the season.  Julia Pritchard picked up the assists with a nice feed to Murphy for the right footed goal.

Almost exactly ten minutes later the Seawolves made it a 2-0 game with Murphy prominently involved again.  This time, she recorded the assist with a pass to Lexi Zandonella-Arasa on the left side of the box.  Zandonella-Arasa placed the ball inside the far post for her second goal of the season.

The scoring was not done for Sonoma as they would add a third with a goal in the 39th minute by Malia Falk.  Falk used some incredible dribbling to break down the defense, side step the goalie and put the ball into the empty net.  Olivia Aschbrenner registered the assist on the goal for her first career point.

SF State got a goal back before halftime with a breakaway score by Rylie Velez.  Sonoma State held a 7-3 shot advantage in the half.

The second half was played to a draw with neither team able to put another on the board.  Zandonella-Arasa had the best opportunity of the half with a free kick that got past the goalie but hit off the post and out of play.

The Seawolves racked up 12 shots for the game with Phoebe Barnes picking up another win in net with three saves.  Her goals against average stands at 0.50 thru her first six career games.

Sonoma State is off until next Friday when they open up CCAA play with a game against Cal Poly Pomona at 12:30 pm.
