ROHNERT PARK, CALIF. - On Saturday September 25th, the Sonoma State volleyball team took on Stanislaus State in a CCAA matchup to finish off their two game home weekend. The Seawolves were fresh off of a 3-set victory on Friday night against rival Chico State. They would look to ride that momentum into tonights match against Stanislaus State who were entering the Wolves' Den off of a straight sets victory against Humboldt State the day prior.
After taking a two point lead early in the first set, the Warriors would crank out a 7-0 run to take a five point lead midway of the first set. After a well needed timeout from head coach
Bear Grassl, his ladies would go on to outscore Stanislaus 9-4 in the next 13 points to tie it up.
Emily Eaton,
Jessie Hobbs, and
Amy Trephan all contributed during that stretch with kills of their own. After the Warriors came within 1 late in the set, the Seawolves would score 4 of the final 5 points to take the set 25-21.
After grabbing the second set 25-19, SSU was poised for another sweep on the weekend heading into the third set. After an early three point run from Stanislaus, Sonoma State would respond with their own scoring run as they recorded the next four points in the set on kills from
Jenn Trephan and
Emily Eaton and an ace from sophomore
Jaden Krist. Eaton would lead all players with 13 kills in the match, good for second most in a game this season. Richardson would finish right behind her with 11 kills on the night. Richardson's 11 kills would be her 8th game this season where she has recorded 10 kills or more.
Leilani Hallman would deliver the final blow for the Seawolves as she recorded the winning kill to give SSU the straight sets victory.
Other match leaders included
Jenn Trephan who led all players with 27 asissts on the night. That would go down as her 8th game this season with 20 assists or more. Freshman
Brynna Slayton and sophomore
Riley Beyma would each record 7 digs in the match as well to lead the Seawolves. Grassl and his group even out their record after two wins on the weekend to 6-6 and 3-1 in conference. The Seawolves will remain home next week as they host Cal State Monterey Bay and look to continue their conference win streak. They will then face off against bay area rival SF State on Saturday October 2nd before hitting the road.
