MSOC: 23-Shot Affair Ends in 0-0 Draw for Seawolves, Record 6th Shutout of Season

TURLOCK, CALIF. - On Sunday, October 2nd, the Sonoma State men's soccer team finished their first conference road trip down in Turlock against Stanislaus State. After a back and forth match and a combined 23 shots between the two teams, head coach Marcus Ziemer and the Seawolves would walk away with a 0-0 draw to finish the weekend 0-1-1.

Despite a winless weekend, the Seawolves defense returns to natural form as they record their 6th shutout of the season. Sophomore keeper Reinier ter Riet finished the day with three saves as his back line kept him relatively untested. Two members of SSU's back line, veteran Matt Walleigh and freshman Elliot Stanley played all 90 minutes. After recovering from minor injuries senior defender Jason Hernandez bounced back with a solid 85-minute outing.

The Seawolves offense would make their presence felt in the first 45 as they outshot the Warriors 8-3. Ziemer and his squad would finish the game with a total of 12 shots, 5 of those on goal. Today would mark the 10th game of the season for SSU with 10 shots or more in a contest, the Seawolves currently sit inside the top-5 in the conference standings in total shots.

Stanislaus State would have their chances in the second half, outshooting SSU 8-4. However, neither team would draw blood and the 90-minute, 23-shot affair would end 0-0. Midfielder Bryan Rosales and winger Patrick Neill would combine for 7 total shots in the contest, with three of those on target. Senior captain Sean Rohane and freshman Jose Rios Lara would also combine for three shots.

Sonoma State improves to 4-4-3 overall and 1-2-1 in conference play. The Seawolves will head south for a single road game next Thursday, October 6th against nationally ranked Cal State Dominguez Hills. The Seawolves will play Thursday's contest in the Toros annual game at Dignity Health Sports Park (previously known as StubHub).
