ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – The Sonoma State volleyball continued their hot play at home this season, toppling Cal State Monterey Bay 3-1 to improve their record at The Wolves' Den to 9-1. Overall the Seawolves improved to 15-6 overall and 8-5 in CCAA play.
SSU trailed only once in the first two sets combine, jumping out to 2-0 lead with 25-22 and 25-18 victories. In the opener the Seawolves used an early five point run to take a 6-1 lead and would never trail in the set. The Otters pulled with one or two several times but Sonoma State always had an answer.
Kiana Richardson led the way with four kills while
Leilani Hallman,
Jen Trephan and
Brooklyn Jackson added three apiece.
In the second set CSUMB scored the first point before the Seawolves quickly grabbed it back with a four-point run to lead 8-4. SSU would extend the lead to as many as nine at 18-9 and finished with a match high 17 kills on their way to a 2-0 lead. Hallman finished the set with five kills with Richardson tacking on four for the second straight set.
The Otters responded in the third set, leading the entire way to cut the deficit in half and force a fourth set. Sonoma State once again left little doubt in the fourth, leading wire-to-wire and never trailing. The Seawolves held a 14-6 kill advantage in the final set to run away with a 25-16 win.
Kaden Young picked up three straight aces to give SSU a cushion they would never relinquish.
The Seawolves held a 56-43 kill advantage for the game and also picked up nine aces. Richardson led all players with 14 kills while Hallman added 11. Trephan just missed a triple-double with nine kills, 15 digs and 21 assists. Young tacked on a match high five aces to go with her 13 digs.
Jaden Krist also turned in nine kills and ten digs to help lead the attack.
Sonoma State has a day off before hosting San Francisco State on Saturday at 3:00 pm at The Wolves' Den.
