ARCATA, Calif. – The Sonoma State volleyball team did it again on Saturday evening, sweeping Cal Poly Humboldt for the second time in three days and completing their fifth straight sweep. The Seawolves improved to 13-5 overall and 6-4 in CCAA play with the victory and have now won their last 15 sets.
SSU took the three sets 25-20, 25-20 and 25-19 with 35 kills, eight aces and seven blocks. The Seawolves broke the first set open early, using six straight points to take a 4-3 lead to a 10-3 advantage. The margin swelled to as many as ten with the Seawolves using three and four point runs to take the double-digit lead. The Lumberjacks closed to four points with a late run of their own but
Kiana Richardson ended the set with a kill.
The second set was closer throughout with CPH leading early at 8-3 and 10-6. The Seawovles responded with a 6-1 run to take their first advantage of the set. The lead changed several times from there before the set was tied at 18-18. Sonoma State took over from there, scoring the next five points and running away with a 25-20 win.
The Seawolves put the final set away with a 9-1 run to take a 7-7 tie to a 16-8 advantage. SSU extended their lead to as many as ten and racked up 14 kills in the set. Richardson finished with six kills in the third alone, including four of the final Sonoma State points.
Richardson led all players with 12 kills in the match and did not commit a single error. She finished with .462 hitting percentage and added an ace.
Jaden Krist racked on eight kills and a team best 11 digs while
Jen Trephan finished with six kills, 17 assists, two blocks and two aces.
The Seawolves head south next week for a pair of matches in Southern California. They will take on Cal State Dominguez Hills on Friday and Cal State LA on Saturday.
