VB: Seawolves Close Regular Season with Sweep of Cal State San Marcos

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Sonoma State volleyball capped off their regular season slate with a 3-0 sweep of Cal State San Marcos on the road.  The Seawolves end the CCAA schedule with a 12-6 record and will be the No. 5 in next weeks conference tournament.

SSU controlled the match from the start, using an early run to lead 7-3.  After the Cougars cut the deficit to one at 9-8 the Seawolves scored the next four and never looked back.  Jaden Krist, Brooklyn Jackson and Kiana Richardson delivered kills during the run to prove the breathing room.  Sonoma State later used a 7-1 run behind six kills and an ace to take the first set 25-16.

The second set was closer with the two teams knotted at 14-14 before the Seawolves made their move.  Sonoma State ripped off a 6-1 run thanks to two kills from Jen Trephan and another from Emily Hernandez to make it 20-15.  Jessie Hobbs ended the set at 25-21 with a kill of her own to make it 2-0.

The Seawolves end the match in the third with a very similar set, breaking a 15-15 with five straight points to put it out a reach.  Krist started the run with a kill and Trephan followed with two aces and a kill while Hobbs recorded the final kill.  After a Cal State San Marcos point Sonoma State scored five of the next six to end the match with a 25-17 win.

SSU held a 45-28 kill advantage while also leading 8-4 in aces.  Trephan just missed her second triple double of the week with a nine kill, 20 assist, nine dig and three ace performance.  Richardson also tacked on nine kills while Kaden Young led all players with 16 digs.

The Seawolves head back down to San Marcos next week for the CCAA Tournament beginning on Thursday.  For more information on the tournament and to purchase tickets visit goccaa.org.
