IRVINE, Calif. – The Sonoma State softball team finished the Concordia Kick-Off Classic with a come-from-behind 6-4 win against Colorado Mesa. The Seawolves scored the last six runs of the contest to push their record to 3-2 on the season.
The two teams started with a scoreless first inning as starter
Nichole Sarra cruised through the first inning. In the second however, the Mavericks got going, scoring four runs despite picking up just two hits. Jesse Dupuis came on in relief for the Seawolves and recorded the last out of the second to stop the damage.
In the bottom half of the second Sonoma got them all back, scoring four runs of their own with a big inning.
Courtney Jack opened with a walk and
Skylar Linnane followed with the first homerun of the season for the Seawolves.
Briana Avalos continued the rally with a double and
Reagan Hunt was hit by a pitch to put the tying run on base.
Cassidy Romano and Anna Zoia-Buesche then delivered back-to-back RBI singles to tie the game at 4-4.
Dubuis took over from there, retiring 11 straight Mavericks including three by strikeouts. Offensively, the Seawolves added a run in each of the third and fourth innings to give Dubuis all the support she would need. Romano played the eventual game-winning-run on a single in the bottom of the third before
Giana Hays ripped a triple to score
Jordyn Martinez in the fourth.
Dubuis would then put down Colorado Mesa in order in the seventh to seal the game. She finished the day with 5.1 scoreless innings, allowing just one baserunner, a hit in the sixth. Romano finished with a team best two hits and drove in a pair of runs. Linnane also drove in a pair while the homerun was the second of her career.
The Seawolves return to the Bay Area to take on a couple of PacWest opponents this week. Sonoma will travel to Dominican on Wednesday for a doubleheader before hosting Holy Names on Thursday for a pair.
