WSOC: Seawolves Battle to Draw with Cal State San Marcos 1-1

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Sonoma State women's soccer team went on the road on Friday and earned a hard fought 1-1 tie with Cal State San Marcos.  The tie was their second in the last three contests and fourth of the season.

The Seawolves wasted little time getting on the board, scoring in the 7th minute on just the third shot of the contest.  Jenna Dean got things started when he played a ball out wide to Renee Ketner.  Ketner took on a defender and pushed the ball to the goal line before playing it into the box.  Mia Solorio-Smith got on the other end of the pass and slipped it passed the defender for her first career score and an early 1-0 lead.

Claudia Janese came up big in net later in the half for SSU making several big saves, including a kick save on a breakaway by the Cougars.  CSUSM made a late push in the first to even the match before halftime but ultimately the Seawolves took the one goal lead into the break.

The advantage would last until the 70th minute when the Cougars earned a corner kick and Natalie Paulson headed home the equalizer.  The Seawolves got one more attempt on goal 40 seconds later but Solorio-Smith's shot from distance was stopped on a diving save.  Janese also kept the Cougars off the board with a late save and the game ended 1-1.

Solorio-Smith became the 8th SSU player to score a goal this season while Ketner's assist was her second of the season.  Janese made four stops in net, including three in the first half.

The Seawolves stay on the road this weekend for a showdown with Cal State East Bay on Sunday at 11:30 am.  Live video is available on the CCAA Network and live stats through the link at www.sonomaseawolves.com.
