SAN FRANCISCO –
Nichole Sarra faced 15 batters in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader and retired them all in order to finish with a perfect game. The Seawolves won the night cap 8-0 in five innings after also run ruling the Gators in the first game 11-0, finishing the weekend with four shutout wins.
Bailee Reed opened the day in the circle for the Seawolves and once again was dominant from the start. She entered the game with 20 straight innings without allowing an earned run and added four more to her total. Reed allowed just one hit and one walk while picking up her fourth win of the week and moved to 6-0 overall. She finished the series with nine innings of work and allowed just two hits.
Sonoma State's offense was on also fire once again with a season high 14-hit performance. After a scoreless two innings,
Reagan Hunt opened the 3
rd with a double and moved to third on a single by
Anna Zoia-Buescher. They would both come around to score on a two-run single by
Rylee Nishimoto.
Giana Hays drew a walk and both runners moved up a base on a wild pitch before
Jordyn Martinez plated the third run on a sacrifice fly.
Skylar Linnane later drew a walk and
Cassidy Romano followed with a single to load the bases.
Sierra Moffett drew a walk to score Hays and Linnane came in on another wild pitch to make it 5-0.
The Seawolves put the game away in the top of the 5
th with six more runs to take their lead up to 11-0. Romano singled and stole second to get the rally started. Moffett added a single of her own before Hunt recorded a hit that would score both. Zoia-Buescher, Martinez,
Amari Houston and Linnane would also deliver hits in the inning.
Charlie Johnson came on in relief and threw a perfect 5
th to end the game and give the Seawolves their eighth straight win. Nine different players picked up at least one hit with Romano leading the way with three hits and a steal. Zoia-Buescher, Linnane and Hunt added two hits apiece with Martinez and Nishimoto recording two RBIs each.
The series finale featured a dominant performance from Sarra who shutdown the Gators with a 45-pitch masterpiece. She retired 15 batters in a row, striking out two, including the final batter to finish off her perfect game. Sarra finished the week with 14 innings of shutout ball and allowed just five total hits.
Zoia-Buescher led off the game with a single and stole second before scoring on a double by Hays to make it 1-0 early on. The Seawolves would add three more in the 3
rd with Hunt opening with a single and Zoia-Buescher also reaching. Hunt would eventually score on a wild pitch and walks to Hays to Martinez loaded the bases. Linnane provided the big hit with a two-run single to bring the score to 4-0.
Sonoma State put the game away in the 5
th with four more runs to earn their fourth straight run-rule victory. Hunt drove in a pair with a double while Linnane picked up another RBI in a bunt.
The Seawolves improved to 10-1 on the season with the sweep and are 4-0 in the CCAA after the opening weekend. They have won their last nine games and will return home next week to host Stanislaus State on Friday and Saturday for a pair of doubleheaders.
