ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – The No. 11 ranked Sonoma State softball team used a complete game shutout from
Nichole Sarra to take the nightcap 4-0 and earn a split with Chico State. The Seawolves moved to 31-8 overall and 20-5 in the CCAA and currently sit on top of the conference standings.
After an 8-0 loss in the opener, SSU answered back with a stellar performance in the second game. Sarra controlled the circle, allowing just six hits while striking out six and improving to 10-3 on the season.
Offensively the Seawolves got going in the third with
Anna Zoia-Buescher and
Rylee Nishimoto opening the frame with back-to-back singles.
Jordyn Martinez bunted them both into scoring position for
Giana Hays. She then laid down a perfect squeeze bunt to score Zoia-Buescher from third for the game's first run. Hays then stole second and
Lauren Mirtoni singled through the left side to plate another run. The third score came on a double steal with Mirtoni taking second and Hays coming home with a nice slide to beat the throw.
Sonoma State added the fourth and final run in the sixth with a two-out single by Zoia-Buescher to score
Amari Houston from second. Zoia-Buescher and Nishimoto finished with two hits apiece in the game.
The Seawolves will close out their home schedule tomorrow with a doubleheader against the Wildcats. Sonoma State will also celebrate Senior Day, honoring their five seniors;
Jordyn Martinez,
Sierra Moffett,
Reagan Hunt,
Cassidy Romano and
Courtney Jack in a ceremony after the final game. The game and ceremony will be live streamed on the CCAA Network with live stats available on
