BSB: Seawolves Shutout by Pioneers to Start Five Game Home Stand

ROHNERT PARK, CALIF. - On Tuesday, April 18th, the Sonoma State baseball team made up their final game of their conference series with Cal State East Bay, dating back to early March. After four solid innings from Seawolves starter Ross Goldschlag, a 1-out RBI double in the 5th would put the Pioneers up 2-0 and force Goldschlag out of the game. SSU would unravel in the inning, allowing three walks to eventually load the bases, followed by a blooped RBI single and a sac fly to center to double Cal State East Bay's lead. The Pioneers starter was able to go the distance, allowing just three hits on the day as the Seawolves were unable to get on the scoreboard and dropped the series finale 4-0.

The Seawolves were retired in order in four of the games seven innings as the Pioneers pitcher worked efficiently in his outing, throwing just 82 pitches. Sophomore outfielder Jared Esparza was able to continue his hot streak as he has recorded a hit in each of his last five games and came off a productive 6-hit weekend against Cal State LA. Esparza would record a hit in the first inning with Chris Ortiz and Elijah Munoz recording the team's other two hits in the 2nd and 5th inning.

Ross Goldschlag made his team leading 10th appearance of the season in just his second start. He would work his way out of some early walks in the first three innings to keep the deficit at just one run heading into the 5th. Right handers Scotty Kato and Caleb Davis would tag team the final two innings with Davis pitching a 1-2-3 7th inning on just 14 pitches.
