CHICO, Calif. – The Sonoma State women's soccer secured a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Chico State on Thursday evening with
Ashley Frye scoring the equalizer in the 83
rd minute. The Seawolves moved to 4-4-4 on the season and 2-2-1 in CCAA play with the tie, earning an important point in the standings.
The game stared out with both defenses holding down the offensive opportunities as the teams combined for just one shot in the first 30 minutes of action. Chico State's Avery Pieri broke the deadlock in the 32nd minute with a goal from the top of the box on the Wildcats first shot of the game.
Despite falling behind, Sonoma State showed resilience and determination throughout the match. The Seawolves' persistence paid off in the 82nd minute when Frye netted the equalizer with a left footed shot inside the near post.
Maya Courtenay started it with a long ball to the back post which was headed back into the middle of the box by
Takoah Castillo. Frye was there to met the ball and slide it past the goalie to make it 1-1.
The match was closely contested, with Chico State edging out Sonoma State in shots (9-5) and corner kicks (4-2). However, the Seawolves' managed to put 4 of their 5 shots on target.
Ariana Beddoes made one save in net as the SSU defense allowed just two shots on target.
