ROHNERT PARK, CALIF.- Sonoma State Women's Volleyball got back to their winning ways with a decisive victory over the Lumberjacks from Cal Poly Humboldt. Despite dropping the first set, the Seawolves rallied behind high level play from various players to win three straight sets and finish off their Northern California rivals in four sets.
In what may have been her best game of the season, Emily Hernandez dominated the Lumberjacks all game long. They had no answer for the senior who had a game high 13 kills on an eye popping .684 hitting percentage. She even got her teammates involved with four assists as she did a great job of keeping plays alive. Lastly, Hernandez was a force on the defensive end with five block assists and a solo block. Humboldt had no answer for Hernandez as it seemed like everytime she touched the ball it resulted in points for the Seawolves.
Alongside their star middle blocker, outside hitters Peyton McBride and Jackie Winfield continued their consistent play. The duo combined for 24 kills while starting each set. Both players have served as the driving forces of the Seawolves offense and will look to keep piling up the kills during their upcoming road trip.
Netzach Hernandez also deserves her flowers as her outstanding defensive play has continued since earning one of the teams starting Libero spots. Hernandez has only recently cracked coach Grassl's rotation but posted a career high 19 digs on the night. She constantly was flying and diving all over the court as she stymied the Lumberjacks offense with big time digs.
The Seawolves got a much needed win at home. After five consecutive home games the team now prepares for a long road trip that won't see them return to the Wolves Den until November 7th. Regardless, the team will be back in action this Saturday as they will now head up to Humboldt for a rematch against the Lumberjacks. The first serve is scheduled for 3:00 PM in Arcata, California!
