SEASIDE, CA - The Sonoma State Seawolves volleyball team showed their resilience on Saturday evening, overcoming a slow start to defeat the Cal State Monterey Bay Otters 3-1 (14-25, 25-17, 25-16, 25-17) at the Otter Sports Center.
After dropping the first set, the Seawolves regrouped and dominated the rest of the match, improving their record to 9-9 overall and 6-6 in the CCAA play.
Theo Hayse led the Seawolves' offensive charge with a match-high 14 kills on a .406 hitting percentage and added three blocks.
Kaden Young provided a strong supporting performance with 10 kills on an impressive .500 hitting percentage.
Defensively, Sonoma State was anchored by libero
Meadow Cooper, who recorded a game-high 19 digs. Cooper's stellar back-row play helped neutralize the Otters' attack and set up the Seawolves' offense.
Setter
Jules Tan orchestrated the offense, dishing out 35 assists and adding a service ace to her stat line.
The Seawolves' blocking also proved to be a difference-maker, with the team recording 6 solo blocks and 8 block assists. This net presence helped limit Cal State Monterey Bay to a .070 hitting percentage for the match.
After the initial setback in the first set, Sonoma State found their rhythm, outhitting the Otters in each of the following sets. The team's hitting percentage improved dramatically, culminating in a .391 performance in the decisive fourth set.
This victory marks an important bounce-back for Sonoma State, who now sit above .500 in both overall and conference play. The Seawolves will look to build on this momentum as they continue their CCAA campaign next week with a road trip to Southern California to take on Cal State San Marcos and Cal Poly Pomona.
