Seawolves Win Second Straight Defeating HPU 74-70

ROHNERT PARK, CALIF.- The Seawolves kicked off the first day of the Ron Logsdon Basketball Challenge with a thrilling win over the visiting Sharks of Hawaii Pacific. Both teams would exchange buckets throughout but a 9-2 run in favor of Sonoma State over the last 60 seconds of action saw Coach Shayewitz's squad emerging victorious for the second game in a row!

Leading the way once again was Sonoma's leading scorer so far this year, James Nobles. Nobles has been an unstoppable force when attacking the basket as he entered this game with 18 free throws attempted in just two games. The Sharks were simply the latest team unable to contain the North Hollywood native as Nobles attempted 14 more free throws, hitting them at an elite 93% clip. With just over a minute left in the game and trailing by four points, Nobles took the game over. He was able to get to the rim for a quick layup to cut the lead to two. He then split a pair of free throws to pull within a single point. He then hit a clutch three pointer with 22 seconds on the clock to secure a two point lead that the Seawolves would not relinquish.

Alongside Nobles, starting point guard Nick Medeiros put together his best outing of the year as well. Medeiros chipped in 16 points behind an effective 5-9 shooting from the floor and a perfect 4-4 from the charity stripe. With a great blend of pull up jumpers and three point shooting his scoring was second highest among the Seawolves. He also pulled down three rebounds and handed out three assists while only turning the ball over once.

Sonoma's second unit also came up big once again thanks to the efforts of Jack Schultz, Donovan Sevilla and Chris Holley. Holley and Sevilla did a great job in the backcourt all game long. Sevilla was a perfect 3-3 from the floor while also grabbing five rebounds and had a huge block at the rim during the second half. Holley continues to dice up opponents with his ball handling and speed. His eight points came via 50% from the floor and he also got active on the glass with four rebounds. Lastly, Shultz has been a deadeye from deep in the first three games of his Seawolves career. Shultz entered the matchup having made six of nine attempts from deep. He hit two more shots from behind the arc keeping his three point shooting percentage at 67%. He stuffed the statsheet with four rebounds, a pair of assists and a pair of steals as well.

The Ron Logsdon Basketball Challenge will be back tomorrow for another evening full of hoops. Sonoma State now turns their attention to Western Washington for tomorrow's 7 PM tip-off!
