ARCATA, CALIF.- The 2024 Sonoma State Women's Soccer season came to a close today after an afternoon showdown with Cal Poly Humboldt in Arcata, California. Despite the result not falling in favor of the Seawolves, this match and season as a whole, had plenty of high points that should lead to a strong future for Sonoma State Women's Soccer!
Statistically, coach Emiria Salzmann's squad put together a competitive outing. For the match the Seawolves posted 18 shots (eight of which were on goal), six saves, three corner kicks and only committed 10 fouls. Seniors Renee Ketner and Julia Betti led the way as they combined for nine total shots with each player having two shots on goal. Luna Chavez was also aggressive with two shots, both of which were on goal as well. Rounding out the Seawolves offensive attack was Kayleigh Acree and Jadyn Radestock. Both players were able to get a shot on goal. Radestock, only a sophomore, reached a season high in minutes played with 59 minutes of action.
Inside the net freshman Ayana Kirisimasi made the second start of her college career. After posting six saves earlier in the week against Cal Poly Pomona, Kirisimasi was once again tasked with serving as the last line of defense for the Seawolves. She again added six more saves to her statsheet and has flashed some promise as she will look to take on an expanded role for her team heading into next season.
Overall it was a solid 2024 showing for the Seawolves. Across the CCAA they finished in the top three for total shots and corner kicks drawn. They were also in the top five for total shots on goal. With the season coming to a close, the Seawolves coaching staff will now turn their attention to preparing for the 2025 season as a coach's work is never done!
