ROHNERT PARK, CALIF. - On Thursday, February 8th, the Sonoma State men's basketball team caught fire from beyond the arc and drilled 11 three pointers to win their second straight and remain well within the postseason hunt. The Seawolves got it done on both ends of the floor and had another solid team performance offensively, finishing 45% from three and over 50% from the field. Sophomore point guard
Nick Medeiros went a perfect 4-4 from three to finish with a team high 14 points off the bench. Starters
Andrew Henderson and
Dillon Iyawe combined for 21 points on the night as SSU finished with a season high 11 three pointers, their first game with double-digit made three's this season.
FIRST HALF SSU 36-21 STAN
The Seawolves were cooking early, connecting on five three balls and holding the Warriors to under 30% shooting from the field. With under eight to play in the first, SSU went on a massive 16-0 run to quickly run their lead up to 19 points. The scoring run was highlighted by back-to-back three's from
James Nobles and
Nick Medeiros while Sonoma State's defense forced three turnovers during that stretch.
Stanislaus would hit a pair of free throws in the final seconds to cut the deficit to 15 but the half went down as one of the most productive offensively for the Seawolves this season.
FINAL SSU 75-58 STAN
The Warriors would trade early buckets in the second half to keep the deficit near 15 but at the 12-minute mark, senior guard
Cameron Barry would light it up with back-to-back three's to ignite the crowd and extend their lead to 26. The Seawolves got out in transition and Barry splashed a corner three on an assist from Medeiros and then on the following possession, Medeiros would deflect a pass for the steal and hit Barry again for his second consecutive three pointer.
The exclamation point for the Seawolves came with a minute and a half left as
Matt Williams III got some late action off the bench. Williams and senior guard
Damien Miller would tag team for a steal in the back court and Miller would throw the ball ahead to spring Williams for the emphatic one-handed slam.
The Seawolves finished with six more three's in the half, giving them a season high 11 on the night. They would finish 50% from the field and hold the Warriors to just 35%, their fourth straight game holding opponents under 40% shooting. Medeiros went a perfect 4-4 from three to finish with a team high 14 points off the bench.
Dillon Iyawe and
Andrew Henderson combined for 21 points and five other Seawolves finished with five or more points in the 17-point victory. The ball movement was also stelar all night as Shayewitz and his group finished with 19 assists, their second highest total this season.
