Game Recap: Baseball |

Seawolves Put up 22 Runs against Gators for 3rd Most in Program History

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIF. - On Monday, March 25th, the Sonoma State baseball team resumed their conference series with San Francisco State after pushing the games back to Sunday and Monday due to weather. After splitting the doubleheader on Sunday with a 9-8 win in game two, they came out Monday with a 22-run and 18-hit performance to take down the Gators 22-9. The last time the Seawolves put up 22 runs was against the Gators back in 2008. The figure would also go down as third most in program history.

Kenny Decelle and Garret Barto recorded 3-hit days for SSU and Decelle and shortstop Daniel Monti combined for 6 RBI's. Sonoma State would take advantage of 7 errors from the San Francisco State defense and eventually broke things wide open with 8 runs in the 4th inning. 10 different players recorded a hit on the day and outfielder Braeden Holliday brought a bit of power on the day with a solo shot in the 8th for his fourth of the season.

On the mound, freshman right hander Luke Ivanoff got another start and powered through three innings giving up just two hits and three runs. Senior Hogan Weaver would get a chance to make his second appearance of the season and with 3+ innings of work he would get credit for his first win of the season. Lefty Noah Souza would come in for Weaver in the 7th to get the final two outs and then Ethan Glassman would complete the final two innings giving up three hits and striking out a batter.

The Seawolves had five extra base hits in the contest including a double and triple for Kenny Decelle who has slashed his way to an impressive .393 batting average and 1.000+ OPS. Garret Barto has also climbed his average to .353 on the season with hits in 10 of his last 12 games, giving the team some power and proving to be a tough out every single game.

Another spark for SSU came in the leadoff spot from senior outfielder Sean Pauly. Pauly has recorded hits in four of his last five games and has started in all four games for the Seawolves this series. His athleticism and speed makes him a tough out and a threat on the bases every time he reaches as he has scored 5 runs in the first three games of the series.

The Seawolves trailed 6-9 in the 6th inning of the series finale but darkness would halt the game. The game will be resumed at a date yet to be determined.

LOOKING AHEAD
