Seawolves Complete Sweep of Stanislaus State with Two More Wins

TURLOCK, Calif. – The Sonoma State capped off their four-game sweep of Stanislaus State with a 2-1 late inning comeback and an 11-2 run-rule contest in the finale.  The Seawolves improved to 20-10 in CCAA play with the sweep and are now 27-15 overall.

SSU found themselves trailing early in the first game as the Warriors pushed a run across in the bottom of the 1st.  Starter Bailee Reed shut down Stanislaus State from then on, cruising through the next four innings as the game went to the 6th still at 1-0.  The Seawolves got a rally going with two outs in the top of the 6th as Lauren Mirtoni doubled to the wall in right center.  Taylor Rapp followed with a single into right to score Mirtoni and tie the game at 1-1.

After Reed breezed through the bottom of the frame the Seawolves got going again in the 7thKaiya Dickens led off with a double of her own.  Friday night's hero Skylar Linnane then stepped in and once again delivered the game-winning hit, singling to right field to score Dickens.  Reed pitched a perfect 7th to pick up the complete game victory, her 15th win of the season.  Reed allowed just one run on four hits and struck out three.  Rapp and Anna Zoia-Buescher led the way offensively with two hits apiece.

The series finale was all Sonoma State as they jumped out early with a huge 1st inning, plating six runs.  Zoia-Buescher and Rylee Nishimoto opened with back-to-back walks and Giana Hays reached to lead the bases.  Mirtoni then followed with a single and Jasmine Moreno scored two more with a hit of her own.  Dickens then doubled to bring across the fourth run before Moreno scored on a wild pitch.  Carissa Marquez made it 6-0 with a single to bring across Dickens.

Hays opened up the 2nd with her CCAA leading 6th triple of the season before scoring on another single by Mirtoni.  Two batters later, Mirtoni came around on a single by Moreno to make it 8-0.  Mirtoni added another hit and RBI in the 3rd and Rapp followed with a two-run single of her own to bring the score to 11-0.

Reed started the contest for the Seawolves, hurling two scoreless before Nichole Sarra came on in relief.  The Warriors pushed across two runs but SSU was able to keep their lead large enough to end the game after five.

Eight Seawolves recorded hits in the game with Mirtoni setting a career high by going 4 for 4 with 3 RBIs.  Hays added three hits, including a triple and Moreno tacked on a pair of hits and 3 RBIs.

The Seawolves moved into sole possession of 1st place in the CCAA with the sweep, holding a one game advantage over Cal State Dominguez Hills.  SSU closes out the regular season next week with a home series against San Francisco State starting on Friday.
