HAYWARD, CALIF.- It was a long day of competition with Sonoma State Women's Volleyball taking on both CSU Pueblo and Fresno Pacific. After two full matches the Seawolves picked up two victories in convincing fashion winning both matches thanks to winning six out of a possible seven sets on the day!
The first match of the day featured the ThunderWolves of CSU Pueblo. The Colorado based program would win the first set of the match in close fashion barely beating Sonoma State 25-22. From that point on it was all Seawolves. The second and third set were close with Sonoma winning both sets by a combined 53-48 score. In the fourth and final set, Sonoma State would finish out the match in decisive fashion winning 25-17.
The duo of Peyton McBride and Jordyn Waite-Ward were dynamic on the offensive side of the net all match long. They combined for 32 kills while hitting .364 for the match. Jules Tan did a great job setting up her teammates with a game high 29 assists. Brynna Slayton finished second on the team with 19 assists of her own but chipped in a match high three service aces.
Defensively three different Seawolves posted double figures in assists with Brooklyn Jackson, Meadow Cooper and Slayton totalling 55 digs. Lastly, Emily Hernandez once again led the team in blocks with four block assists and two solo blocks.
As for the second match of the day against Fresno Pacific, coach Bear Grassl's team was even more dominant winning in three straight sets and holding their opponents to under 20 points in all three sets. The Seawolves deployed a balanced attack against the Sunbirds across the three sets. Five different players chipped in at least five kills with Hernandez and McBride adding 10 and 11 kills respectively. Additionally, the quartet of Meadow Cooper, Brynna Slayton, Jules Tan and Peyton McBride all added at least one service ace to their resumes.
Lastly, Sonoma State would out-dig their opponents 37-32 with Cooper posting a game high 12 digs.
The Seawolves are back in action tomorrow to wrap up the Cal State East Bay Tournament with a showdown against Concordia Irvine at 11:00 am.
