ROHNERT PARK, CALIF.- Most of the community at Sonoma State may still be enjoying their winter break but Sonoma State Men's Basketball was locked in Saturday afternoon against the visiting Toros of Cal State Dominguez Hills. The two programs traded clutch buckets all game long in a game that featured multiple lead changes and great offensive production from multiple players.
Ball movement and ball security was the name of the game for the Seawolves with the team assisting on 21 of their 27 made field goals. Five players recorded multiple assists with Chris Holley once again putting together an outstanding game as a floor general. His six assists were a game high and pushed his assists totals to 25 over his last four appearances. During the span he has only seven turnovers highlighting just how well he is running the Seawolves offense. As a whole coach Shayewitz's squad only committed six turnovers across 40 minutes of playing time.
Offensively, the duo of Holley and Julian Bryant led the way scoring 18 and 17 points respectively. As has been the case over the past few weeks teams simply can't keep the Sacramento native out of the paint. His crossover and lateral quickness lead to dribble penetration that results in either a layup or a trip to the free throw line. Holley was an efficient 5-8 from the floor and knocked down seven of nine free throw attempts as well.
Bryant has continued to put together his best season with the Seawolves to date as the veteran wing continues to post career high numbers across the board. His 17 points came in a variety of ways including multiple tough finishes at the rim through contact, a three point jumper and multiple trips to the free throw line. For good measure Bryant also snagged seven rebounds and handed out four assists. As it stands the Seawolves graduate student is posting the best points per game, field goal percentage, three point percentage, free throw percentage and rebound per game statistics since he joined the program.
Rounding out the Seawolves offense was Jakob Milling with 11 points thanks to a strong showing from three in which he knocked down three of six attempts for his seventh double digit scoring effort of the season. Alongside the frenchmen, Donovan Sevilla and Nick Medieros both chipped in 10 points apiece while also combining for seven rebounds. Lastly, Aaron Ragen continues to torch nets from deep hitting two more three pointers to the tune of 67% for the game. His streak of multiple made threes has now reached six straight games.
The Seawolves will enjoy a few days of recovery before another two games next week. They will first be matching up with Cal Poly Humboldt on January 16th for a 7:30 PM tip-off as they continue to take on their CCAA rivals!
