ROHNERT PARK, CALIF.- Sonoma State Women's Basketball welcomed the third ranked team in the nation to the Wolves Den for a CCAA showdown. Despite eventually falling to the Toros, the Seawolves walk away with some key positive takeaways most notably thanks to their overall defensive effort and the play of their two freshmen.
The pair of Genesis Hopkins and Sydney Peterson saw significant playing time against the highly rated Toros and made impact plays on both ends of the court. Hopkins was the leading scorer across both teams with 13 points. She was aggressive all game long and not only knocked down three shots but earned eight attempts at the charity stripe where she hit seven free throws. She also held her own on the defensive end of the court swiping four steals and helping her team hold Dominguez Hills to just 40% shooting from the floor 17% from three.
Alongside Hopkins, Peterson was also active in her 25 minutes of playing time. She too came away with three steals while also grabbing five rebounds and only committing a pair of turnovers. Peterson also scored a season high six points thanks to constantly attacking the basket. This duo may be young but they proved that they belong in the CCAA.
The Seawolves will now turn their attention to Cal Poly Humboldt who will be making the trip to the Wolves Den next Thursday. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 PM as Sonoma looks to get back to their winning ways against the Lumberjacks!
