ROHNERT PARK, CALIF.- Sonoma State Baseball was back on Seawolf Diamond for their first home doubleheader of the 2025 season. Across 18 innings of baseball the team not only pulled out two wins but compiled 24 hits, 17 runs and 23 strikeouts. It was a solid bounce back effort for coach Garsez's squad who will look to carry this momentum into a rematch next week against Jessup University.
Game One: SSU 11, Simpson 3
The first game of the day was a complete effort by the Seawolves both at the plate and on the mound. Six different players recorded multiple hits with starting right fielder Bryson McArn putting together a monster game with his bat. McArn totaled three hits in four appearances, drove in three scores, scored two runs himself and had the teams lone home run of the afternoon.
Fellow outfielder Aryonis Harrison had a great day as well. Harrison was able to add two hits in three at-bats to his resume while also drawing a walk. Harrison did his best work once he got on base with two steals in two attempts. Lastly, Ben Saitz also had a good outing in the first game he secured two hits, scored two runs and stole a base for good measure.
On the mound Michael Panichi was dominant for six innings. Panichi faced 20 batters and responded with nine strikeouts, forced three groundouts and didn't walk a single batter. Panichi has submitted the top pitching performance of the young seasons for the Seawolves.
Game Two: SSU 6, Simpson 5
The second game of the day was a much closer affair with the game reaching extra innings. Despite the lower score, Sonoma's bats were still effective to the tune of nine hits and six scored runs. This time starting shortstop Ben Saitz paved the way for a Seawolves win with three hits, a stolen base and even drew a walk for good measure. Saitz has been incredibly consistent for the Seawolves having recorded a hit in all but one game so far this season and has also improved as a threat on the bags with two steals in his last two appearances.
It was a collective effort from the pitching crew for the day. Three pitchers recorded four or more strikeouts. Starter Marcellus Henry led the way with five while also forcing five groundouts. The duo of Noah Souza and Colton Wuelfing each took over for two innings and the duo combined for eight strikeouts while not walking a single batter.
The end of the contest was a close one with the team needing an extra inning to secure the win. Thanks to Cooper Callison's stolen base as well as an error that advanced Ryan Tiger to third. To wrap things up Braden Sellz was able to pop out a single down the left field line that resulted in the Seawolves second walk-off win of the year!
